And the lyrics - this album was before his beliefs, or at least his lyrics, turned pro-crazy-conservative, and were more in line with his earlier lyrics, being simply anti-system. When I got home and listened to it, I was blown away by "Blackmail the Universe." It was classic Megadeth, without trying too hard to bring back that sound necessarily - it was still modern and relevant. But I do think I bought it the week it came out. Maybe I heard "Die Dead Enough" somewhere before the album came out, or maybe I bought it based on the album cover, I don't remember. The last album I bought prior to this was Youthanasia and I didn't care about what Megadeth was playing or saying after that. I'm not even sure why I bought this album. This album is fucking great! It's my favorite behind only Rust in Peace and Peace Sells, and depending on the day, behind Killing is My Business. It's fast, it's heavy, awesome music, awesome atmosphere, the perfect comeback to metal after almost 25 years. If I had to pick a least favorite, it'd have to be Of Mice And Men, but even that song kicks ass.įavorite album, hands down. The controversial political views are back in the lyrics and on the cover as well.Īctually, pretty much all the songs are fantastic. This is their return to fast and heavy, which hasn't really been heard since Rust In Peace. This album is what The World Needs A Hero should have been. When I heard Die Dead Enough, I heard that note again and instantly knew he was the one playing it. The subtlety, the finesse, whatever it is sounded really good. There's a note that Chris plays on the song Good Mourning off Peace Sells that just sounds perfect. It's hard, it's heavy, it's fast.Ĭhris Poland came back to record this album and he absolutely nailed it. I have to say that this is probably my most favorite album by Megadeth.
